A Divination Commentary

Tarot readings, chiromancy, scrying, ouija boards, psychics, psychic mediums; all seem to offer the one thing everyone desires - to see what life holds for them.

This seems to imply a belief that our lives are pre-destined, on the other hand, if a reading is bad, the querent wants to change their destiny. To have the power of a god.

Human beings are a strange lot. To request a reading indicates a belief that someone else "holds the cards" so to speak. A higher power or powers directs our path. Let the news be bad? And the querent suddenly believes that destiny can be changed, that the power can be taken from the celestial dealer.

I've been doing readings for a long time. I figure at this point? I can draw a few conclusions. Personally, I use the Tarot - the Thoth deck (what a surprise!!). It is a very difficult deck to use, I don't think anyone actually masters the deck. It is complex and is open to individual interpretation of the symbols, as it should be. Every Man and Woman is a star and as individual godheads? None of us have the same take on imagery. Life experience will play into interpretation as will age, and psyche.

There are, of course, basic premises or stock interpretations on which the individual builds. Otherwise? It would be a crap shoot.

This deck never lets me down. It is the people for whom I do the readings who perform the letting down. The Tarot doesn't lie. It is simply a set of images that interpret the individual, without their masks and false faces.

I don't sugarcoat readings either. I don't avoid nasty truths as a rule. There are instances where I have not relayed certain information because it involved incidents that cannot be changed. Serious illness for example. Instead, I will recommend a trip to the doctor and a change in lifestyle.

In the past, I have given readings with definitive "advice" and have had that advice ignored. A life path with potential, changed, possibly irrevocably.

Happy, contented people do not, as a rule, seek a reading. Their reasons for coming to you are usually rooted in fear, sadness or suspicion. This has to be kept in mind when doing a reading. Depending on the depth of the emotion, it can influence the reading. Negative energy is a powerful force.

Indiscriminate readings are not my bag. I choose for whom I will do a reading; I have this luxury because readings are not my livelihood. I don't charge. I do readings for free, gratis. This gives me control over who I allow into my home, my life and ultimately, via a reading - my energy.
